Over the last couple of months I have felt like I have just woken up from a deep sleep and really looked at how people interact with and treat each other. I have to say I am amazed that so many people seem to have forgotten their manners! I don't mean opening doors for people or pulling out a chair for someone to sit down on (although these are still sweet). I mean saying please and thank you and just generally watching how you talk to and treat people.
I work in a shop and so come into contact with people on a daily basis and the way in which some people have talked down to me or have just been plain nasty really made me think. I'm sure it can't just be me being picky - although I was always brought up to smile and greet people when you saw them.
As an example, I greeted a customer a couple of days ago on entering the shop and asked them if they needed any help. It was said loud enough and people that were nearby heard me yet the customer just took no notice and carried on looking around which is fine. However a couple of minutes later they were talking to me like something on the bottom of their shoe and being aggressive because something was out of stock. I would never dream of being aggressive or abusive to a member of staff anywhere that is just doing there job so why do other people think it is ok to do so. Next time you go into a shop, smile and treat them nicely and you will be sure to get the best service, behave in a different manner and you will be remembered and talked about for all the wrong reasons for a long time to come.
Until next time
